Ukrainian Polish Chateau Louis Wedding. Yuliya & Piotr.

September 29, 2010

Finally, a Ukrainian wedding! Ironic that I had never photographed one, being Ukrainian and all.

“He’s not doing so good,” said Yuliya, chuckling, as she busied around, getting everything in order. “He was green and white and all sorts of colours!” she said, dialing Piotr’s cell phone. I just adore her, the little fireball! She’s always got it figured out and just one look is enough for everyone around to know which way is up 🙂

Their wedding was so soulful, filled with heartfelt Ukrainian and Polish traditions and elegant modern touches, flawlessly executed by an incredibly charming woman and wedding planner extraordinnaire, Nadia Casanova (Terra Incognita Events).

My favourite part of the day was by far their ‘First Look’ before the ceremony… I’m so glad Rob and I convinced them to see each other in Yuliya’s mom’s backyard! Not to be overdramatic here, but I seriously have never seen or eaten such abundant and delicious apples. Ever! I regret being polite and not stuffing every pocket and empty space in my camera sack with these, like an oversized racoon… As for the ‘first look’ itself … it was magical.

After the ceremony, we headed out to Fort Edmonton Park, Edmonton’s beautiful historical park, where we hitched a ride on a train, strolled through the scenic dirt roads, trespassed a little, danced, and popped champagne…
