2010 Flashbacks. [part two]

January 15, 2011

Here are the last six months of twenty-ten in a few images… A mini-eternity that flew by in a blink of and eye and a bat of eyelashes. Part one was HERE.

Rob says with pride that he is a wedding photographer. He also never gets the bottoms on wedding gowns dirty.Wedding. Mandy & Tom get married in St. Paul. High school sweetheats. We get eaten by mosquitos. We also create truly unique images in and around some of Alberta’s oldest heritage-site homes.Wedding. Meghan & Andrew get married on Vancouver Island, Craig Bay. Their Pacific Shores Resort wedding will become one of our favourite memories of the year. They treat us like family. As we document their wedding, Rob and I fall in deeper love. We also fall in love with photographing weddings on BC’s Vancouver Island. Our time off.And the ferry rides. Always snuggling.A stunning Vancouver skyline is Waiting for us. I love this city dearly. I realize I might have to move back to Alberta to be with the man I love. A sweet friendship grows. This amazing woman grows deeper roots in my life. Kyla.We are.AUGUST

Dear friends come visit and fall in love with my view. I cook and tell stories. Many times we stay up till sunrise.

My parents visit for the first and only time, we have a blast. Really. Big time … especially with the “Celebration of Light” fireworks competition happening right in front of my balcony in English Bay! I will forever cherish this memory. It is my last month in Vancouver, but I feel this is only the beginning.Rob & I pinky swear that we will at some point live in a place where a real tree grows. I don’t quite understand why this is important but pinky swear anyway 🙂We travel to the incredible Sunshine Coast for Camila & Dan‘s unforgettable wedding at Rockwater Secret Cove Resort. The tenthouses are out of this world. What a paradise for a wedding! Rob surprises me with an extra night at one of these for my birthday. Heaven. (Here is Rob feeding raccoons). We stroll around Gibson and discover the most magical oysters at Molly’s Restaurant.More beautiful memories. Sunshine Coast. Dinner with very special friends. Later this day we see a whale close to shore, at a lunch picnic before heading to the ferry. AUGUST

Tofurious Workshop, Orange County. I’m so honored, Lawrence invites me to California to attend Business Strategy. More great times with friends. Intimate portraits with California couple Michelle & Curtis.

Wedding. Sarah & Matt get married at Vancouver’s Hart House restaurant. The day before, Rob and I come here to scout locations and end up having a luxurious lunch overlooking the forrest and lake.Montreal, Quebec wedding coming up. We visit my sweet friend Katia a few days earlier. Rob crowns her ‘his favourite friend of mine.’ 🙂This short visit will become one of the fondest memories of the summer. We ‘crash’ a gallery opening, enjoy some delicious wine, dance, sight-see, and laugh heartily. Katia gets a short lesson in taking pictures with our 5D Mark II and takes our first photos. We love them. Wedding. Keisha & Tika get married at Montreal Botanical Gardens. I’m so happy and emotional, Keisha has been one of my closest friends. She will be leaving to Gabon after the wedding to be with her beloved. Visit family in Quebec. Love. Love. Love.Wedding. Leah & Andrew get married at Gastown’s District 319. Simply amazing. Couples shoot. Christy & Darren. North Vancouver beach shoot. We are so tired… and are anticipating our Seattle trip. But this shoot is magical. Somehow irresistibly magical. Road trip to Seattle. WPPI roadshow. We see Jasmine Star and Gim Garder speak. We eat some amazing seafood with great photographer friends. There are no pictures of this trip, because on our drive back to Edmonton we will get our car broken into. All the gear will be stolen, except for a couple of memory cards from the most recent wedding and one hard drive in my handbag. We will have to deal with the loss for months to come.Wedding. Olga & Ryan get married in Calgary, at Bear’s Den.

SEPTEMBER Wedding. Yuliya & Piotr get married in Edmonton, at Chateau Louis. Sweet sweet people. We have such an awesome time together at Fort Edmonton Park! Here is my favourite ‘first look’ – Piotr waits for Yuliya under this gorgeous apple tree with a rose. Yep, like on the Bachelor show! Love it.Intimate Portraits. Amanda & JT at New York’s Gansevoort Hotel on Park Ave. What a perfect setting. This hotel is unreal. And so is this beautiful couple… I heart New York!!Roaming around, this city makes me feel so alive.OCTOBER

Intimate Portraits. I. & JD. celebrate their anniversary with couples photos in Mexico, Barcelo Palace in Mayan Riviera. We have an amazing time together, even though the first time we meet is at the airport! One of the highlights: this 6 am shoot in the still turquoise caribbean waters. With tender rays of sun and a bedsheet around them!Wedding. Calla & Stanford get married at Renaissance Hotel, Vancouver. I fly here straight from Mexico, limping from a sea urchin sting. NOVEMBER

Wedding. Alexandra & Ricardo get married at Edmonton’s Our Lady Fatima church. My first two-hour wedding. I spend 6 weeks in Dominican Republic, setting up our presence here. Punta Cana & Puerto Plata destination weddings and intimate portraits here are the goal. Rob comes to join me and asks me to be his wife. I feel like the luckiest woman alive. We go on a crazy road trip to Punta Cana from Cabarete to photograph Robyn & Graeme on their honeymoon at Punta Cana Occidental Grand Resort, we have such a great time… Ironically, they were my first AND last shoot of year 2010! How cool is that?We come home to a brutal winter, warmed by an amazing Christmas with family. Rob and I will spend New Year’s Eve in Vancouver (for a New Years day wedding in Abbotsford), savoring an organic home-made dinner, watching movies, sipping champagne,  and talking about everything we look forward to in the new year.

Phew, I thought this blog post was a good idea, but I had no idea it would take so long 🙂 Thank you for letting me share… I know in probably just another year from now, I will look back at this post and chuckle… Much, much love… and Happy New Year!!!
