Marihug & Adam met in college and have been dating for 11 and a half years. Yeah!! Mari remembers, “I was a freshman at Cornell and saw this guy DJing a welcome BBQ who I thought was attractive. I asked him to play a song and he basically blew me off. We didn’t see each other again until I joined a Latino dance ensemble later that semester. We became friends and our connection just felt so natural and easy. I knew he was the one early on and so did he because he whispered he loved me while sound asleep. We’ve been each other’s cheerleaders and source of strength ever since and have built a great life together surrounded by the most amazing friends and family.”
Oh, Marihug & Adam. I don’t even know where to start with these two without sounding over the top cliche and lovey. Can any two people be more beautiful, inside and out?! Smart, sassy, driven, kind, elegant, thoughtful, charming, ridiculously fun, so soulful… and have you seen them dance?!
For me, the hardest thing about this wedding was narrowing down the images to share in this feature, and also the fact that we can’t hang out with these guys on a regular basis.
This wedding was so unique because of the seamless collaboration between the amazing Mariela (who is the best resort wedding planner I’ve ever met) and the wonderful Nati (Huracan wedding team), who decorated their Sanctuary Cap Cana ceremony and reception so beautifully.
I’m not going to say much more and just let you enjoy the story as it unfolded through our eyes. I hope you can tell that our hearts were overflowing with LOVE.

Top three things Marihug loves about Adam: “I love his heart. Adam loves and gives unconditionally and will take the shirt off his back for those he cares about. I love his sense of humour and the fact that he can crack me up like no other. I also love that he will always be a kid at heart! (And the fact that he’s damn fine doesn’t hurt either!)”
Top three things Adam loves about Marihug: “She’s sexy, smart and an amazing person. She makes me want to be a better person.”
Thank you wonderful Mariela!

Adam on the Proposal:
“It was a Saturday night and Marihug had been working all day. I had already contacted my friends at the CIA (I can’t disclose their names for obvious reasons) to set up the proposal. First, we enjoyed a great meal and lots of wine at our favourite neighbourhood restaurant and contrary to Marihug’s claims, I was smooth and cool throughout the entire dinner. After we ordered dessert, I pretended to head to the restroom but instead I went outside where a silent black helicopter picked me up. I then had the helicopter hover over our table and I repelled down, breaking the glass roof and landing on one knee. You know, the knee I had surgery on. I then removed my black ski mask (of course my hair remained perfect) and opened the ring box which had a mini spotlight in it. I told Marihug I wanted us to grow old together and asked her to marry me (none of which Marihug heard as she was blinded by the ring). A few minutes later, she finally said yes and I placed the ring on her finger…
Marihug of course wanted to contact all of her friends and family to share the news. From the restaurant, we jumped into the silent black helicopter which took us over the Hudson and dropped us off on a yacht where some of our family and friends were waiting for us with some Louie Roederer (yeah that good Cristal that we were drinking before Rihanna’s song). It was an epic night and epic proposal…”
Most romantic memory together according to Marihug: “When we rented a convertible and drove the Pacific Coast Highway from LA to San Francisco. We booked hotels from the road and stopped whenever and wherever we wanted to enjoy some wine and the gorgeous views.”
Most romantic memory together according to Adam: “When we went to vieques. We rented a jeep and drove around a bunch of private beaches. Then we returned to our hotel, which had an amazing room.”
Ideal day together according to Marihug: “We would wake up early and go for a nice run along the east river. We’d later pack sandwiches, wine, and cheese and spend the day laid out in Central Park. Then we’d go home and cuddle up with more wine and watch movies until we fell asleep. No work pulling us away and no other distractions, just the two of us being us.”
Ideal day together according to Adam: “We would hit the gym for some squats, guzzle some protein shakes, then head to an outdoor brunch. After brunch we would take a walk in Central Park and watch the sunset. Then we grab dinner and kill a bottle of wine.”
Marihug: “His eyes have been melting my heart since 2004.”
Marihug: “What I appreciate most about Adam is that I can be the 100% unfiltered version of myself with him.”
Adam: “I love that she accepts me as I am and partakes in the silly foolish things only we can appreciate.”
Marihug: “I love it when he looks at me with puppy eyes and cracks a joke. Especially when I’m upset or irritated, it works like a charm.”
Adam: “I love it when she says “I love you” in this special voice. Changes my mood right away.”
Marihug: “I wouldn’t be the woman I am today if it weren’t for Adam, plain and simple.”
Adam: “With Marihug by my side, I feel complete.”
If Marihug could eat only one type of food for the rest of her life: “Wine – it has grapes so it’s a type of food. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!”
If Adam could eat only one type of food for the rest of his life: “PIZZA.”

BRIDE & GROOM POST-WEDDING REFLECTIONS:
Our favourite moments?!
Marihug: “There are SO many! Spending a long weekend with all of those we love partying the day and night away. Getting dolled up in the castle suite with gorgeous ocean views and seeing Nati and her team completely transform the island into more than I could have ever imagined. When my dad went over to grab my step dad to help walk me down aisle. When I forgot my vow book and one of my bridesmaids ran inside in the middle of the ceremony to go grab it. When Adam and I snuck away to take wedding pictures and Katya turned on her portable speakers playing some fun tunes. That photo session was so intimate and special I will remember those moments forever. And of course when we walked in as the new Mr. and Mrs. and the crowd went wild!”
Adam: “Sharing our vows and partying at the reception. Also, getting the chance to spend a few days with our family and friends at a beautiful resort.”
Comments about vendors:
Katya & Rob
Marihug: “Where do I even begin?! Katya is the catalyst of all things great during our wedding. I reached out to her early on in the planning process and immediately became smitten. The gorgeous blog helped me narrow down my venue choices and she graciously provided her professional feedback on each venue I was considering. When it came to the details, she recommended every single vendor I ended up hiring (hair, makeup, decor, video). But most importantly, Katya and Rob are amazing at what they do. They bring so much love to their work that you can’t help but give the love back in front of the lens. I personally get nervous in front of a camera but thanks to these two the love you see reflected in the pictures above is unfiltered pure love and emotion. I feel lucky to have met them and to have shared our special day with them.”
Adam: “Katya and Rob are awesome and so much fun. They bring out the best in us in front of the camera and know how to capture moments without getting in the way (stealth like ninjas). We can’t wait to hang out with them again.”
Sanctuary Cap Cana: “Sanctuary is a gorgeous, breathtaking and unique resort. We instantly fell in love with the castle suite island where we held our ceremony. The palm trees and blue sea was the perfect backdrop for our ceremony. Mariela is the wedding coordinator and she went above and beyond to make our day extra special and for that we will forever be grateful. Our guests had a blast at the resort and all enjoyed their rooms and amenities. Good food, good drinks and beautiful place!”
Nati: “This woman is godsend! I knew that I wanted/needed a visionary to create the atmosphere I was looking for on our wedding day. I also knew that I wanted a stress free day without having to worry about the details. Nati is truly incredible. I just sent her pictures of what I liked, we had a few Skype calls and she handled the rest. She was also great at helping me cut things here and there to stay within budget. Everything from the ceremony to the reception was stunning and all of my guests kept coming up to me complimenting how beautiful everything looked. I was WOWED!”
Melanie Gabriele: “My girls and I loved getting our makeup done by Melanie. Her attention to detail and ability to listen to what you want brings out the best in all of us. I felt gorgeous and the makeup lasted all night (and for some even the day after at the pool.” 🙂
Krystie Ann: “She was a lot of fun to work with, worked quickly and did a good job.”
Diego CoresFilms: “We worked with Manuel from CoresFilms and he too was stealth like a ninja. He would seamlessly work his magic without making us feel like we were being followed around by bright lights. We can’t wait to see the video!”
Paisley Bridal: “Amazing bridal boutique in Queens, NY with luxury brands at good price points (my dress is Pronovias). Nicole is the owner and she’s wonderful.”
First Look or Not?
“There’s only one thing that I would do differently looking back. I would have done a first look so that we had more time taking pictures and enjoying the cocktail hour with our guests. Don’t get me wrong, I loved seeing his face when we locked eyes down the aisle for the first time and Katya and Rob did a great job capturing amazing moments all around but getting our pictures out of the way first would have been nice.”
Advice for future brides & grooms:
“Spend time with your friends and family the days leading up to the wedding. Having that long weekend with everyone is invaluable and beautiful. Delegate and have your wedding coordinator help with the details so that you can just relax. If you assemble the right team, you’ll be in good hands and everything will go smoothly (minus the inevitable hiccups that you shouldn’t stress).
Drink all the drinks, eat all of the food, dance the night away and just be in the moment. Adam and I did just that. We had a blast and were the ones planning the after parties and after after parties almost every night. We created memories with our friends and families that will last a lifetime.”
