Mark had just started his dream job as a full time fire fighter, ‘recently single and starting a new career, I was both stressed out and at the same time enjoying life.’ The last thing he wanted was another relationship, but life had other plans.
‘The secretary at the fire department, Deb, knew I was single and has a daughter a few years younger than me who had a single friend. Deb asked me one day if I was interested in going on a date with her daughters friend, and pulled up a picture on her daughters Facebook page. I agreed immediately – she was HOT. A few days later I contacted her and asked her on a date. I played it cheap and went to Olive Garden, we had a really good time though and it was the least awkward and most comfortable date I had ever been on! After the restaurant we ended the night at a friend’s bar where Jess became frisky with me (I guess she couldn’t resist. LOL.) We became serious a few months later – I don’t know the actual point at which I fell in love with her but I’m pretty sure she had me hooked from day one.’
Naty in action!
‘I fell for him the instant we met. I knew there was something special in him that I wouldn’t find in anyone else.’
Jess, on the proposal: ‘It was a complete surprise! We had a New Year’s Eve party and when the ball was dropping I didn’t notice all the cameras out. Everyone yelled Happy New Year – we kissed and he asked me “Do you love me?” I said “Yes!” Then he asked “Do you want to spend the rest of your life with me?” I said “Yes!” … not realizing that he was getting down on one knee and actually proposing. I started crying and was in total shock.’
‘Mark makes me want to be a better person. He is so goal-oriented and motivated with his career that he has helped me drop my fears of staying in a career that doesn’t satisfy me to going back to school and fulfilling my goals. I have also become more adventurous with him.’
Top three things Mark loves about Jess: ‘I love that no matter what we can always be ourselves around each other. I love, her love … she has a huge heart and is caring and will be an awesome person to spend my life with. Her smile, it lights up a room and it makes my day.’
Top three things Jess loves about Mark: ‘He has a way of making me laugh when I am mad and always lightens the mood. He is charismatic and a go getter. I fall in love with him more and more each day and know we will be able to get through anything.’
‘We enjoy doing fun things together: vacationing, skiing, riding the motorcycle, working out, and going out to having an exciting night. Some of the best days with Jess have been the ‘down time’ days, the lazy days just relaxing around the house and enjoying each other’s company.’
Most romantic memory together: ‘a weekend we spent up in New Hampshire at a small Bed & Breakfast. It was just the two of us enjoying the cozy room with a fire place and a jacuzzi tub. We had really good food and drinks, relaxed, did some sightseeing and had a great time. We would like to do this more often.’
Favourite guilty pleasures:
Mark: ‘ice cream.’
Jessica: ‘Watching trashy TV (Mark doesn’t like this), GREAT food, beer, wine, and of course ice cream!’
‘Jess keeps me in check – if I were still single I would probably have lost my job by now from all the partying! She also makes me try new things that I probably wouldn’t have. I have someone who I can share my life with and enjoy sharing hers as well.’
‘I love Jessica’s smile, it’s irresistible. When she smiles it makes my day. (Of course her beautiful and sexy body too.)’
‘I love Mark’s dimples (most may say it’s his most irresistible feature), but he got me stuck with his smile and his eyes (he has the most incredibly long eyelashes that women would kill for).’
Favourite things to find it the fridge:
Mark: ‘cookie dough ice cream or sheppard’s pie.’
Jessica: ‘pizza, Somerset Creamery ice cream (all homemade at the stand near our house) and Portuguese sweet bread (not usually in the fridge but I can polish off a whole loaf myself (that is like gold in our house even though we can get it at any time).’
BRIDE & GROOM POST-WEDDING REFLECTIONS:
What did you love most about your wedding?
‘We loved the location, the warmth and love that came from Mayte and Naty with all that they put into our wedding. We couldn’t have asked for a better team. Also, the decorations were better than I could even imagined.’
Any regrets? What would you have done differently?
‘Yes, stress less. I’m actually very laid back, even through the whole wedding process … except the final days.’
Most memorable moments?
‘Just having our friends together and making friends with each other (if they weren’t already) and everyone dancing until the wedding was over in the surprise rain after the main portions of the reception were done. It was amazing! Everyone was drenched and loving it!’
Comments about vendors / venue etc
‘We have stayed at the Majestic Elegance before and both times it was great. Our guests enjoyed it as well. Our wedding would not have been as amazing as it was without Mayte Mari, Naty, Katya Nova, Rob, Lacy, Krystie Ann, and all the wonderful people working at the Huracan that night. The DJ was also great! I didn’t give him much for music, just the important stuff and he did the rest.’
Advice for future brides?
‘Enjoy it. Every last bit of the planning and the day. It comes and goes so quickly that stressing about the little things that no one will even notice isn’t worth it. Take time to think about why you are going through this and that in the end it will be just you, your husband and the love that you have for one another.’
