Christa & Gio’s love story? Fourteen years in the making! ‘I met Gio for the first time when I was in Grade 8 and he was in Grade 12. He had just moved to Vancouver from England and I thought he was in my grade. We had the same Tommy Hilfiger backpack, and our lockers were across the hall from each other. Years later I saw him again at a bistro in North Vancouver… we had all the same friends! I always had the hots for him, but felt he was out of my league. We would bump into each other from time to time – at a friend’s birthday or some other event, but he was ‘off the market’ for years. Eventually, in 2010, I ran into him one night after an event, thinking to myself as I walked home how happy and content I was to be single and not wanting a relationship. We exchanged numbers and were literally inseparable from that day forward. In fact, Gio told me he was going to marry me … on our second date!’
On choosing their destination Wedding:
‘I saw Katya & Rob’s gorgeous photos online from both Hard Rock Punta Cana and Paradisus weddings, so I knew that either of those two resorts were capable of executing a Wedding up to our standards. The correspondence with Hard Rock was really straightforward and professional, and I was thrilled with the options they layed out for us. I really feel we chose a fantastic venue, what a wonderful team of people they have here!’
Dearest Christa & Gio – we absolutely adore you – thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing this MAGICAL Day with us! You two are are such gems, a truly one-of-a-kind Couple and … we can’t wait to hopefully reconnect in Vancouver!

Christa: ‘Gio is so sweet… he always makes my coffee and brings it to my bedside! He is usually thinking 10 steps ahead to make my day brighter. I think we’re both like that towards one another, we truly love each other and always take care of each other.’

Christa, on the Proposal:
‘It was out of this world! Gio had been planning it for EVER … I think for well over a year. He had me believe we were meeting his ex-business partner in Victoria for lunch. It was a trick! Gio had arranged for the words CHRISTA WILL YOU MARRY ME to be plowed out in the field, and when we got up in a helicopter, I could see the words. As if that wasn’t incredible enough, when we landed, there was a news team waiting to interview us! In true Gio fashion, there was a Rolls Royce Phantom to pick us up and we headed to the Fairmont Pacific Rim to celebrate with family and friends. Best day of my life, hands down. If it’s worth doing, Gio will go over-the-top, whatever it may be.’
‘Our ideal day together would be a Sunday… Brunch, shopping, and in the evening cuddling with our kids and doggie on the couch, with a fun movie.’
‘Gio is such a romantic guy, he is always being sweet! One of the most romantic memories that stands out for me is from our first anniversary. He drove us to the restaurant where the bistro used to be (where I ran into him when I was 18). He made sure the table we were sitting at was the exact same spot where we had talked back then, years ago. More than anything, it was the fact that he thought all the details through that makes the memory particularly sweet.’
‘Gio calls me Boo. He only calls me by my first name if I’m misbehaving!’ 🙂
It was so special to sneak a few peeks at their stunning reception set up (Toral Beach) before the guests started to arrive. This is by far one of the most beautiful and elegant beach receptions we’ve seen at any resort.
‘We’ve chosen ivory & blush for our colours and the theme is ‘easy-breezy-romantic’ – I just wanted something timeless, exuding effortless understated elegance.’

BRIDE’S POST-WEDDING REFLECTIONS:
What did you love most about your Wedding!?
‘EVERYTHING!!! Specifically, the best thing about the Wedding was the moment I first saw Gio. All that was going through my head was OMG I get to marry HIM????! It was as if my future husband walked out of a GQ magazine and onto the set of my dream Wedding in some sort of epic Hollywood movie. Totally surreal!!
Hard Rock was amazing, a true five-star, four diamond. Everyone and everything exceeded my expectations. Every last detail was executed perfectly. Erica, our wedding planner, was beyond amazing.’
Do you have any regrets? What would you have done differently if you could?
Most memorable moments from the Day / Wedding week?!
‘1. Quality time poolside with my Dad the morning of the Wedding day… 2. On our Wedding Day, the prime minister of England called one of our guests and then congratulated us on our nuptials! 3. I remember looking around at the reception on the beach, surrounded by our family and closest friends, seeing love and joy in their eyes as they danced, the sand in my toes, the wind in my veil, the sound of the crashing waves and music, the flowers, the wedding cake, the champagne, the laughter, the way Gio looked at me as he was holding my hand… If I had to pinpoint the happiest moment of my life that would be it, pure bliss.’
Advice for future Brides & Grooms: ‘Enjoy every moment of your special day as it unfolds.’ ❤️
