dreams punta cana + jellyfish wedding. {denise + hugo}

August 19, 2013

Denise & Hugo met while working part-time retail and quickly became friends. It was just so easy to be around each other.

In time, their feelings grew and they became inseparable.

I’ll let Denise share the proposal story: ‘The day after my graduation from University, my parents threw me a surprise party. To get me out of the house so that I would not suspect a thing, Hugo had arranged a night out in the city that ended in a beautiful suite in one of Toronto’s most luxurious hotels. Given the special occasion, the choice of venue did not cause me to suspect a thing. As usual, we got up late and had just enough time to get ready for this ‘lunch’ with my family. While getting ready, Hugo gave me my graduation gift. It was a small black box with a beautiful white bow, just the kind of box you would put an engagement ring in, only it was a Pandora charm! Talk about a decoy! After a few minutes, Hugo then ‘remembered’ he had forgotten to give me the other part of my gift – a book called ‘Hugo & Denise – The Story of the Greatest Love in the World.’ It told our story in pictures, scanned letters we’d written to one another over the years and as it came to an end it read, ‘Sometimes it’s difficult to put exactly the way we feel into words. Let’s give it a try…’ [turn page] ‘Denise, will you marry me? Check one: YES! [  ] No[  ] Maybe[ ] .’ One page in and I was already bawling my eyes out, so you can imagine how much of a mess I became when I realized what was going on… The whole thing was a blur and to this day there are moments of it that I cannot remember. One thing I do remember is feeling the happiest I ever have in my life. At that very moment, I knew that anything was possible as long there was ‘us.’ As it turned out, everyone (but me!) knew that we would show up at my ‘surprise’ graduation party an engaged couple, so what was supposed to be a celebration of my accomplishments, turned out to be an engagement party as well!’

Rob & I flew back to Punta Cana especially for their wedding – and had to catch a red-eye from Edmonton to Toronto before boarding an early morning flight to Dominican. I’m so glad our friendship with these two was already palpable, because the first time they saw us was when we were passed out and sprawled out on the airport benches at our Punta Cana gate! 🙂

Denise & Hugo are one of the warmest, most open-hearted and sweet couples we’ve ever hung out with. We were lucky enough to spend an extra day with them after the wedding (along with our amazing friends / uber-talented cinematographers Kiera & Josh) at the stunning Casa de Campo in La Romana (photos coming soon!)

Dreams Punta Cana all-inclusive was the perfect home base for the wedding week, and the reception took place at Jellyfish.

Denise & Hugo – love you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anna Nuet – fabulous make-up & hair stylist in Punta Cana (from Barcelona via New York).

Valentino.

Remember Kiera & Josh of Jakfoto Productions? Rob & I were lucky enough to have them capture our wedding last April… we are SO HAPPY Denise & Hugo flew them out to Punta Cana from California for their very own wedding feature film!

First look at the Dreams Punta Cana secluded gardens.

Top three things Denise loves about Hugo: ‘his sense of humour, how affectionate he is, his desire and willingness to always be there for me in good times, and those ‘not so good’ times.’

Top three things Hugo loves about Denise: ‘her creativity, her big heart & loving nature, and spontaneity.’

‘This is how we roll’ 🙂

We snuck off to the beach before the ceremony to capture the vibrant turquoise beach and create some romantic ‘alone’ time for Denise & Hugo… So perfect.

Dreams Punta Cana gazebo wedding ceremony.

After a long fun drive, we arrive at Jellyfish Restaurant.

Mayte created a fairytale wedding… brilliant!

A signature spicy lobster bisque and a vegan plate – some of the many customizable menu options available at Jellyfish.

Oh yes. Lobster under secret butter champagne sauce … sexy beast! 🙂

Crazy hour.

Signature fire show.
