Melissa is a beauty with a larger-than-life smile, she was born in Quebec City and grew up in Vancouver, BC. For many years she has worked as a flight attendant (one of her closest friends, Lise, confirms that Melissa was the cause of many a passenger suffering whiplash 🙂 AND she’s a dental hygienist. Melissa met Scott through a mutual friend 10 years ago, on a houseboat trip in the Okanagan… ‘Scottie 2 Hottie’ – ‘a very fitting nickname,’ she immediately thought. Originally from Michigan, Scott has been living in Alaska for many years and has built a dental practice there. Their paths would cross on a rare occasion, but Melissa & Scott had no idea they had major crushes on each other. A couple of years later, Melissa received a call to work on a private jet that was going to Alaska for 5 days. That’s when Melissa reached out to Scott and asked for some tourist recommendations. ‘He offered to take me fishing and asked me what I liked to eat and drink. He picked me up at 4:30am and the sun was shining bright. We drove down the most scenic road to Whittier Alaska and went halibut fishing. He brought a huge cooler filled with every item that I had mentioned! It was the most amazing day! Even the other couple that was on the same charter could not believe that we were just friends. Our energy together was so strong and from then on we started our long distance relationship.’
Scott proposed to Melissa the day before they were leaving for Hawaii to celebrate the Christmas holidays. They went out for dinner and Melissa was already so excited about their upcoming vacation – but there was even more to come. Melissa recalls, ‘we got back home and were drinking wine (liquid courage). He took the little box out of his pocket and asked me if I would like to be his wife! First thing I said was “Are you sure?” hee hee and then of course I said YES!!! We continued to celebrate that night and we almost missed our flight to Maui the next morning!’ They now live, love and share their dreams in Alaska with Captain Jack Sparrow & Kiera, their two cuddly Newfoundland ‘Landseer’ dogs.
Their Gran Bahia Principe Esmeralda Punta Cana wedding was incredible… I mean, would you expect anything less after reading their fairytale story?! Even the name of the resort they chose was telling of this elegant, romantic and unforgettable celebration. This was the first time Rob & I photographed a wedding at Bahia Esmeralda and we were so impressed! Of course, much had to do with the impeccable taste, scrupulous effort and planning that went into the details (special thanks to Melissa’s mom on this).
Melissa & Scott – we loved being a part of your wedding and hope you feel that love in the way we retell the story in the images below… You two are unstoppable and we are really excited we now have someone to visit in Alaska! (Also – you win as the couple with the best music playlists… we are Sasquatch people too!) 🙂
Special thank you to Jayna Marie, a super talented make-up and hair artist who came all the way from Vancouver to doll up Melissa & her favourite girls.
Our partners in crime (and now friends) Desy & Vincent of RF Weddings, also all the way from Vancouver, BC! They are amazing cinematographers and really cool guys. We had such a blast working together, can’t wait to see the film! The First Look before their Gran Bahia Principe Esmeralda beach ceremony.
Favourite guilty pleasures: Melissa: ‘wine and chocolate;‘ Scott: ‘Scotch and eggs benny.’
‘Scott is my best friend, best lover, best travel companion… just the best life partner. Life is never boring. We travel a lot, go to lots of concerts, love our friends, love the outdoors, love to cook and entertain. My life feels fulfilled with him by my side. ‘
‘Melissa is so smart, loving and fun. I feel like I have found my life partner that loves to live life to the fullest like I do.’
What’s a beach wedding without a little bystander action?! 🙂

Melissa and her wonderful mom Suzie. Rob & I are making plans to come visit her too, at her exquisite B&B in Kelowna, BC called Le Chateau Du Lac. It’s just minutes away from the best British Columbia wineries… mmmmmm…. Don’t miss it if you’re in the area!
